Pilgrims were also obliged to bring their own prayer rugs.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>GULF COUNTRIES ADJUST CORONAVIRUS RESTRICTIONS<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities said on July 1 residents and citizens <a class=\"js-external-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-coronavirus-emirates-travel\/uae-says-residents-citizens-cannot-travel-abroad-for-tourism-yet-idUSKBN24274W?utm_campaign=Brookings%20Doha%20Center&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_content=90650821&amp;utm_source=hs_email\">would not yet be allowed to travel abroad<\/a>for tourism and leisure purposes and that such activity would need a permit. This came after initial claims that international travel could resume from June 23.<\/p>\n<p>Qatar on July 22 <a class=\"js-external-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-coronavirus-qatar\/qatar-allows-citizens-and-permanent-residents-to-travel-and-return-anytime-idUSKCN24M30H?utm_campaign=Brookings%20Doha%20Center&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_content=91820455&amp;utm_source=hs_email\">relaxed restrictions aimed at controlling the virus<\/a>, allowing citizens and permanent residency holders to travel outside the country and return at any time, and residents outside the country to return starting August 1.<\/p>\n<p>Kuwait\u2019s center for government communication announced on Twitter on July 25 that the country <a class=\"js-external-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-coronavirus-kuwait-idUSKCN24Q0PY\">would end the strict lockdown imposed in Farwaniya governorate<\/a> from 5 a.m. (0200 GMT) the following day.<\/p>\n<p>State television in Oman reported on July 14 that the country <a class=\"js-external-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-coronavirus-oman\/oman-to-start-allowing-citizens-to-travel-abroad-state-tv-idUSKCN24F1IH?utm_campaign=Brookings%20Doha%20Center&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_content=91418942&amp;utm_source=hs_email\">would start allowing its citizens to travel abroad<\/a>, but theywould have to apply with authorities to do so and quarantine upon their return.
